I. Objectives
1. Knowledge, skills, attitude
 Knowledge:
   -To introduce Ss the overall topic of the unit: Healthy lifestyle and longevity.
  -To help Ss get familiar with the topic of the unit.
 Skills: Integrated skills (To promote Ss to develop the skill of getting to know the new materials)
 Attitude:
  - To encourage Ss to have responsible attitude towards increasing life expectancy.
2. Orientation for competency development
  - To make Ss be aware of the importance of health in life.
  - To enable Ss to use the language for practice correctly in order to develop students’ language competence, collaborative competence.
II. Preparation of teacher and students
1. Teacher's preparation: Appliances for studying (textbooks, references, teaching aids, etc.)
2. Students' preparation:  Lesson preparation
III. Teaching procedures
• START/ WARM UP ACTIVITY (5ms)
 Aims of the activity: To get Ss to know the topic about healthy lifestyle and longevity and check out the grammar points they have learnt.

- Shows Ss some pictures about healthy lifestyle and unhealthy lifestyle. Asks Ss to describe by using the conditional type 0.

 

Example:
If I drink beer too much, I can’t sleep.
If I drink a lot of water, I keep fit.

- Has a talk with Ss about the topic.
Some quotes about the topic.
 
To be healthy, what do you often do?
- Informs the class of the lesson objectives and leads to the lesson.
Lead-in: To let you know more about healthy lifestyle and longevity we come to Unit 10 - Ss’ answers may vary.
- Suggested answer:
• Eat healthy
• Sleep enough
• Exercise regularly



• KNOWLEDGE FORMATION ACTIVITIES (15ms)
ACTIVITY 1: Listen and read. (8ms)
 Aims of the activity: To help Ss practice some skills (reading and listening)
Content, techniques for organizing students’ learning activities Expected products and assessment of student work
- Tells Ss that that are going to listen to a conversation between Kim and Max.
- Plays the recording.
- Has Ss summarize the conversation.
+ What is the dialogue talking about?
A. Dr Quan advised viewers to exercise regularly
B. Dr Quan advised people to release stress.
C. Consume healthy food such as brown rice, fresh fruit and vegetables.
D. Four principles of doctor Quan about staying healthy
- Asks Ss to look at the visual diagram illustrating the four principles of staying healthy. Explains that each picture represents a principle.

- Has Ss listen and read the conversation silently and then write the name of the correct principle under each picture.
- Asks Ss to practice the conversation.
Lead in: To help you know more about these new words and phrases related to healthy lifestyle we come to activity 2.
- Ss both read and listen to the conversation between Kim and Max.
- Ss can predict the content of the conversation.
- Suggested answer:

ACTIVITY 2: Read the conversation again. Find the verbs that go with following nouns. Write them in space provided.  (7ms)
 Aims of the activity: Focus on collocations related to health and lifestyles

- Asks Ss to read the conversation again and find the verbs
- Let’s Ss compare their answer in pairs or groups.
- Checks Ss’ answers in pairs or groups.
Lead-in: To let you know what exactly four principles are these we come to activity 3.

Activity 2: Read the conversation again. Find the verbs that go with the following nouns.

• PRACTICE ACTIVITIES (10ms)

ACTIVITY 3: Complete the following notes on Dr. Quan’s four principles to stay healthy
 Aims of the activity: Focus on comprehension of the conversation
Content, techniques for organizing students’ learning activities Expected products and assessment of student work
- Asks Ss to work in groups and write on
mini board. Each group represent a principle.
- Let’s Ss compare answers in groups. Reminds them to use the correct word forms.
- Checks Ss’ answers in class. - Suggested answer:
1. relieving stress
2. we practice meditation
3. eating healthy food
4. developing heart diseases
5. exercising regularly
6. sports; yoga and t’ai chi
7. natural remedies; take prescription medicine.




• APPLICATION AND EXTENSION ACTIVITIES:(10ms)

ACTIVITY 5: Work in pairs. Answer the following questions
 Aims of the activity: Focus on comprehension of the conversation and enable Ss to use the language for practice correctly in order to develop students’ language competence, collaborative competence.

- Asks Ss to work in pairs
• Has Ss recall Dr Quan’s four principles and discuss the questions
   1/ Which of Dr Quan ‘s four principles can you apply to stay healthy? Why? Why not?
2/ As you know, Covid-19 is a dangerous and infectious disease, what should we do to prevent it every day?
• Invite some pairs to report their discussions to the rest of the class
• Shows some tips for prevent Covid-19 and have a healthy lifestyle - Suggested answer:
1. The first principle is relieving stress. The second one is to consuming healthy food. The third one is exercising regularly……
2.              





ACTIVITY 6: Find all the examples of reported speech in the conversation.

 Aims of the activity: Introduce the grammar point they will learn in Unit 10.

- Asks Ss to read the conversation again and pick out all the examples of reported speech.
• Has Ss underline the reporting verbs and the verb forms that follow the reporting verbs.
• Draw Ss’s attention to the last two examples (sentence 4 and 5). Briefly explain that an infinitive or -ing form can be used after a reporting verb in reported speech.
- Suggested answer:

1. Dr. Quan said if you practiced meditation every day, you could keep your mind stress free.
2. Yesterday, I read an article on the internet which claimed you could increase your life expectancy if you ate brown rice, fruit and vegetables.
3. He said read meat is high in fat, which increases the risk of developing heart disease.
4. Dr Quan advised viewers to exercise regularly.
5. He suggested playing sports when you’re young, or practicing yoga and t’ ai chi…

- Summarizes the main points of the lesson.

- Some tips for prevent Covid-19 and have a healthy lifestyle.
- Reported speech with conditionals

E. HOMEWORK: (5ms)

- Summaries the main points of the lesson.
- Asks Ss to:
+ Learn the new words by heart, read and translate the conversation, do the tasks again.
+ Prepare the next lesson (Language).
